Gurgaon has been buzzing with business activities since the beginning of the 1990s, primarily with the IT & ITES & Auto Anciliary business. Both of these Industries form the back bone of Gurgaon's Industrial Growth. Although at inception of Gurgaon, the first major industry to be set up was Suzuki in collaboration with Maruti of India, but later on various other Automobile Industries found Gurgaon as a pottential for their large factories. Honda was to follow pursuit.

In the Early 90s, the IT & ITES industries fueled the city's growth at an extremely fast pace, so much so that the government was not even prepared with the infrastructure to help this rapid growth. Today, Gurgaon has possibly the largest share of the IT & ITES organizations operating out of various office buildings in Gurgaon. The Haryana Government offered special benefits to this sector in terms of lower taxation and permission to build more area on a particular piece of land (Increased FAR).

Floor Area Ratio also known as FAR in common Haryana Language is "the measure of the amount of construction allowed by the authorities to be built on a particular peice of land". For the IT & ITES sector, the government has allowed almost 40% extra coverage, which leads to lower rents for IT & ITes sectors.

Haryana Government from the beginning has been creating seperate zones for various industries to do businesses in. Typically these zones have a seperate set of rules that apply to each industry type.

IT & ITes Zones (Information Technology & Information Technology Enabled Services)

SEZs Zone (Special Economic Zones)

Although, some of these zones are locationally segregated, but most of them are segregated building wise, which means that there could be an IT & ITes building even in the Industrial Zone.

Within each of the zones, there are various types of office spaces available, Starting from An Independent Building, A Complete Floor Plate, A part of a Floor(smaller offices), A Business Center, An Incubation Center. And within each of these, there are options of Fully Furnished Offices, Furnished Call Center Setups, Furnished BPO setups etc.
